Biography & Metadata
Sarah Menescal, known as "The Queen of Bossa'N," is the most influential artist of her genre and the most-streamed Bossa Nova singer in the world with over 330 million plays across digital platforms. Born in Chile, her family moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she found solace in the sounds of João Gilberto, Elis Regina, and Gal Costa. Inspired by Rita Lee’s rebellious energy, she developed her signature style: Bossa’N. With a career spanning nearly two decades, Menescal's musical journey began when a producer from Music Brokers discovered her talent. In 2008, she recorded Don’t Speak (Jazz ’n 90s Vol. II), now with over 71 million Spotify streams. However, it was the infectious beats of Brazilian rhythms that truly resonated with her artistic soul and in 2014 she released her debut album “ The Voice of the New Bossa Nova” that showcased an innovative approach and helped define the modern Bossa’N movement. Other popular tracks include Stand By Me (Ben E. King), Over My Shoulder (Mike and The Mechanics), Always on My Mind (Pet Shop Boys) and Clocks (Coldplay). With more than 1.5M monthly listeners on digital platforms, Sarah Menescal continues redefining Bossa Nova boundaries. She blends Bossa Nova’s softness with rock, pop, jazz, and reggae, crafting a sound that resonates globally. She bridges, with her emotive yet elegant voice, the past and present while staying true to the genre’s essence.
