Corey Purcell

Corey Purcell is an award winning multi-instrumentalist and Irish step-dancer currently residing in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA. He has toured extensively with his band 'Poor Man's Gambit' since its inception in 2015, and is also known for his work with 'The Free Reeds'; a duo project with master piano accordionist Rob Curto. Corey's latest album 'Undaunted' was released on June 1st, 2023. The majority of the tracks were recorded in 2021 during a solo five day retreat to a friend’s cabin in the forests of central Pennsylvania during the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by the hummingbirds that frequented the cabin during his afternoon recording sessions, Purcell commissioned a painting of a hummingbird by Irish artist Mary Burke (now residing in Connecticut, USA), which he then had digitized and modeled into the artwork for the project. The album draws its name from the lyrics of the first track ‘The Banks of Sweet Dundee’, which recounts a young girl’s stand against her uncle and ultimate triumph in the face of adversity. ‘Undaunted’ also aptly applies to hummingbirds, who will fly up to 500 miles non-stop during their annual migration over the Gulf of Mexico.
