Guy Bélanger, a harmonica player and composer from Quebec, began his career in 1974 by training with Bob Walsh, who introduced him to the blues. He then played with the Delta Blues Band (meeting legends such as Muddy Waters and Koko Taylor) before joining Bob Walsh and his band for more than 30 years of collaboration, marked by international tours and appearances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2003, he composed the music for the film Gaz Bar Blues with Claude Fradette, winning a Jutra Award. Their collaboration continued on other films (The Timekeeper, Vivre à 100 Milles à l’heure) and series (Les Boys). In 2008, he released his first solo album, Guy Bélanger, which was acclaimed (4 Lys Blues in 2009). A prolific artist, he released a string of albums (Crossroads, Dusty Trails, Blues Turn) and won awards, including Best Harmonica Player in Canada (2015). He also composed for film (Les Mauvaises Herbes, nominated for the 2017 Iris Awards). In 2019, Eldorado confirmed his talent, followed in 2023 by Voyages & autres histoires, combining original compositions and covers. In August 2025, to mark his 50-year career, he released Postcards from London, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, combining blues, roots, and cinematic influences. Recognized for his virtuosity and emotion, Guy Bélanger remains a major figure in Quebec and international blues.
