Anssi Tirkkonen

Anssi Tirkkonen (b. 1988) is one of the most prominent young drummers from Finland. Currently residing in Helsinki, Tirkkonen has recently worked with numerous artists in various projects including the Game Music Collective, Max Zenger Globus, Joonas Tuuri Quartet and Ylva Haru. Tirkkonen’s list of achievements include the first place of the EBU Euroradio Jazz Competition (2018) and Young Nordic Jazz Comets (2014) competitions. Tirkkonen was also the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s Young Soloist of 2019. Tirkkonen feels at home delivering deep swinging grooves and complex improvisational textures in jazz and beyond. Established in Finland in 2016, the Game Music Collective is Europe’s first professional orchestra focusing on video game music. In this group, Tirkkonen plays the acoustic kit on top of electronic and other percussions. The collective is a combination of a band, a symphonic orchestra and a live stage production. With almost 200 000 subscribers the total view count of Game Music Collective’s channel in Youtube is just under 30 million and is estimated to grow vastly as more content is uploaded.
