Bradley Lubman is an American conductor, composer, and educator whose work focuses primarily on contemporary music. His career brings together ensemble conducting, musical creation, and close collaboration with contemporary composers. He is featured, notably, on Anders Hillborg's Lost Landscapes, released in 2026, in which he conducts the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Born in 1962, Lubman studied music at the State University of New York at Purchase, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984, before continuing his studies at Stony Brook University, where he received a Master of Music in 1986. He subsequently conducted the ensembles at both institutions and worked at the Tanglewood Music Center from 1989 to 1994. In 1997, he joined the Eastman School of Music, where he teaches conducting. His meeting with Steve Reich in the mid-'90s marked an important turning point in his career: he went on to conduct several premieres of Reich's works and collaborated with the Steve Reich Ensemble. This association is reflected in Steve Reich: Music for 18 Musicians, recorded with Ensemble Modern and released in 1998. In 2005, the album Insomniac revealed another dimension of his career, with Lubman serving as both composer and producer on a recording devoted to his own works, combining acoustic instruments and electronics. In 2008, he co-founded Ensemble Signal in New York with Lauren Radnofsky, becoming its co-artistic director and conductor. The ensemble is dedicated to the creation, commissioning, and recording of contemporary music. In 2010, Lubman conducted Signal in Sarah Kirkland Snider's Penelope, a song cycle inspired by Homer's Odyssey. As a conductor, Lubman has worked with leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Sinfonietta, among many others. His particularly rich and eclectic repertoire encompasses works by Helmut Lachenmann, Michael Gordon, Philip Glass, and numerous other composers, as well as his own compositions. In 2019, he received the Ditson Conductor's Award in recognition of his work championing contemporary American music. ~ Islem Meghiref, Rovi
