Tom Sharkett

Tom Sharkett is a producer from Manchester, now based in Todmorden. Having cut his teeth as a founding member of synth-wave band W. H. Lung and touring with Ghostly International ambient/folk artist Julie Byrne, Tom has gone on to forge his own path as an electronic artist with releases on Optimo Music, DFA and a forthcoming release on Apiento’s Test Pressing. Tom’s own productions on Optimo Music lean towards dark, wonky and psychedelic electronics, whilst his remixes for the likes of LCD Soundsystem and labels such as Heavenly Recordings and Fiction Records show Tom’s ability to reimagine a track into a dancefloor ready classic. It was his edit of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Home’ that grabbed the attention of James Murphy and DFA label manager after a chance listen on Flo’s NTS, where the chatroom buzz meant she played it twice in the same show. This led to an official DFA release and support from DJs worldwide from Heidi Lawden to Gerd Janson. As a DJ, Tom has played with the likes of Daniel Avery, JD Twitch, Lupini and Justin Strauss and contributed mixes to NTS, The Lot Radio, Worldwide FM and Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. As a live act, Tom has appeared at Watching Trees, Sounds From the Other City and played alongside Rival Consoles and Dark Entries’ Linea Aspera at Salford underground institution, The White Hotel.
