Biography & Metadata

Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker serves up a rootsy-storytelling brand of song that has been said to transport listeners - out onto a northern lake or to the main street of a prairie town. With critical comparisons to Kris Kristofferson, Jackson Browne & Murray McLauchlan he received the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for ‘Contemporary Folk Singer of the Year’. Straker released his 9th recording “Great Big Sky” in 2024, produced by Steve Dawson in Nashville TN. Steeped with themes of the Canadian prairies, the preciousness of time & new love, AmericanaUK praised it saying “With emotional and sonic depth Great Big Sky is an album we’d thoroughly recommend”. Unexpected compliments came from His Majesty King Charles III who was moved by one of the songs on the record after a copy was hand-delivered to him at Buckingham Palace. Recent touring has taken Jeffery across Canada, to Nashville, the UK & Ireland. CBC Radio showcased him in a live national broadcast and he represented Canada in a week-long residency in Osaka Japan at Expo 2025. --NEW SINGLE: Keep on Climbing (Sept 23 '25) - based on a vivid childhood memory - have a listen to learn what it was. --NEW ALBUM: A Very Prairie Christmas (Dec 2 '25) A new 12-song holiday album blending nostalgic classics, intimate arrangements, and Straker’s signature piano-driven storytelling, the album captures the way Christmas memories evolve while still holding their magic.
