Biography & Metadata

Lost Velvet are a UK alternative dark rock duo formed by multi-instrumentalist Robert Butcher and vocalist Melissa Morris. Built around a distinctive dual-vocal dynamic, they blend cinematic textures, layered guitars, subtle electronics and hazy vocals to create haunting, dreamlike soundscapes. Drawing influence from Radiohead, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails and Massive Attack, their sound moves between weight and fragility, combining grunge roots with darkwave atmosphere, industrial tension and a modern cinematic edge. Often described as feeling like it was pulled from a forgotten film reel, their music explores memory, identity, nostalgia and the spaces between light and shadow. Since debuting in 2025, Lost Velvet have earned repeated support from BBC Introducing across multiple regions while steadily evolving towards a darker, heavier and more expansive sound. Their debut album, Dark Cells, mixed by Michael Patterson (Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Puscifer, Amusement Parks on Fire, She Wants Revenge), marks the next chapter in that evolution. A call to the past, shaped in the present, Lost Velvet exist somewhere between memory and motion, shadow-lit, cinematic, and entirely their own.
