Biography & Metadata
‘Look Both Ways’, the latest album from underground rap mainstay Benny Diction, is out NOW on Gold On The Mixer. As well as being a direct quote from one of the album’s standout tunes, the title denotes a theme which recurs over the course of its 13 tracks. ‘Look Both Ways’ explores the relationship between contrasting states of being and how we mentally, physically and spiritually navigate them. Sleep and wake. Sadness and laughter. Wrath and patience. Struggle and victory. Past and present. Life and death. ‘Look Both Ways’ is produced exclusively by Palmer Eldritch, the beats wizard behind GOTM releases such as Jaroo’s ‘Apparitions’, Amos’ ‘Unhappy Birthday’ and the ‘Archetecs’ EP by Archetype and FlowTecs, to name a few. Not only did he produce, mix and master the project, he also recorded the bulk of it at his South London HQ. The directness of the process allowed the chemistry between Eldritch and Benny to flourish, resulting in a 13-track album that’s as cohesive as it is diverse. ‘Look Both Ways’ is easily Benny’s best work to date and works not only as a snapshot of where the lyricist is at personally, but also as an examination of the human condition. As Benny says on the opening track, “It’s an extension of me when I ink the papyrus / That by extension applies with the disc and stylus”.
