Torn Hawk

Luke Wyatt, known upstairs as Torn Hawk, is a multidisciplinary bullshit artist whose work spans “music”, video art, experimental filmmaking, experimental accounting, and spoken word . He mushes electronic music, rock, cardboard, and you with a visual aesthetic characterized by manipulated VHS footage, glitch art techniques, and what he terms "video mulch." Wyatt has released too much stuff on disrespected labels including Mexican Summer, L.I.E.S., and The Trilogy Tapes, establishing himself as an innovative voice in electronic music with a sound that defies easy categorization and creates bad dreams for himself. Wyatt has also gained recognition for his pioneering visual techniques. Sometimes he designs clothing for joints in Japan. I have seen him rip wings off angels and duct tape them to his own back. I have seen him generate a pit, a void, a tear in the earth before him, hang a two by four over the edge, and walk out to the end of it on his tippy toes. And let me tell you, he has collaborated with prominent artists across disciplines and has disciplined prominent artists for buying cheap toilet paper (Scott brand). Wyatt's speech art pieces blur the boundary between musical composition and oral storytelling (“oral sex”), challenging conventional notions of performance art. Who the hell can argue that Wyatt has not developed a cohesive artistic language that finds beauty in degradation and error, contributing significantly to the degradation of people close to him.
