Biography & Metadata

Hailing from Ivory Park in Johannesburg, Suffocate SA is one of the South African electronic scene’s best-kept secrets. After over a decade refining his craft, he now reveals the full scope of his musical world through releases on respected international labels. In 2022, he appeared on standout compilation projects curated by Timmy Regisford and Thandi Draai for Nervous (US) and Get Physical (Germany). The following year, he contributed to albums by Tete (Sony Music), Mörda (Asante Music), and Zakes Bantwini (Universal), including co-producing Mama Thula with Thakzin, a track that became an unofficial anthem during South Africa’s Rugby World Cup victory. Recent releases include Journey To The Making (Memories), Rising Strong (Sondela), Mementos Of Spirit (Stay True Sounds), and Flight of Hope (Sondela), earning support from artists such as Black Coffee, Bonobo, Jimpster, Manoo, Dwson, and Hyenah. In 2025, he played a key role on Thakzin’s debut album Gods Window Pt. I, contributing to Hamba Nami and Imali Yephepha. Versatile and forward-thinking, Suffocate SA continues to shape a new wave blending Afro House, Afro Tech, and 3Step, with an upcoming collaborative EP on Beneath the Baobab.
