Martin Winch

Martin Winch (1949–2011) was one of New Zealand’s most respected guitarists, composers, and musicians, known for his versatility across jazz, blues, pop, and orchestral music. Born in Nottingham, England, and raised on Auckland’s North Shore, he built a remarkable career spanning more than four decades. His best-known album Espresso Guitar, produced and arranged by Carl Doy, reached #1 in New Zealand, sold over 80,000 copies, and earned widespread acclaim both locally and internationally. Alongside his work as a performer and recording artist, Martin was a dedicated teacher and mentor, influencing and supporting generations of musicians through his work at the University of Auckland and beyond.
