August Blackwood

August Blackwood is a project by Swedish pianist Johannes Johansson. With August Blackwood, he is reimagining the soundtracks of the Harry Potter movies in his own calm and understated way. His compositions create neo-classical soundscapes through a blend of peaceful piano and minimalistic strings. Rather than trying to recreate the grandeur and drama of the original scores, August Blackwood focuses on their quieter and more magical side — keeping the melodies intimate, warm and easy to get lost in. The piano remains at the heart of the project, while subtle strings and orchestral textures slowly build around it. The result sits somewhere between modern classical music, ambient piano and cinematic orchestration. For us, August Blackwood is less about retelling the world of Harry Potter and more about capturing the feeling that surrounds it: a little nostalgic, a little mysterious, and always peaceful.
