Red Mecca is a Swedish band with a bent toward dark wave and atmospheric electronica. Based in Sundsvall, Sweden, the band centers around former Brända Barn keyboardist and percussionist Jan Strandqvist and between 2013-2018, frontwoman Frida Madeleine. Vocalist Susanne Jonsson took over from Frida after she stepped down. Red Mecca released their debut album, You Were Never Here, in 2013. A year later, they returned with full-length album Covered with Rain, and in 2016, Red Mecca released their third, and also Manifest Prize Rewarded, full-length album, Electricity and fourth, I See Darkness in You in 2018. The titel track featured two times in BBCs celebrated Killing Eve-series. During the summer of 2018 Red Mecca released the dark 12-inch The Fall and the End as Frida did the last concerts as vocalist. In fall Susanne Jonsson joined the project and in 2019 the fifth album Truth was released. And a second 12-inch vinyl with dark electronic remakes of Donna Summer and Hot Chocolate. Sinc then they have been perfecting their darkwave with the albums Away (2021), the impressive double album Stay (2023) and a new album in 2026 – their most personal so far.
