Biography & Metadata

endive’s sound grows from the tension between different generations, different musical worlds, and the unexpected places where they meet. At the heart of the Dutch quartet are composer-songwriters Warner Mossel (vocals/piano) and Marcel Ju (drums/synthesizers), father-in-law and son-in-law, separated by a generation but connected through music. Together with Sam van Tienhoven (guitar) and Andro Ackerman (bass), they move somewhere between dream pop, ambient pop and art rock. The creative core of the band is the dialogue between Warner and Marcel, whose different musical backgrounds merge in the writing process. Warner’s classical background, shaped by Debussy and Ravel, meets Marcel’s eclectic history across jazz, shoegaze and experimental music, as well as years of running a record store. Many songs begin with Warner’s piano improvisations, which they develop through conversation and experimentation into a shared language. Working with producer Oscar de Jong (Kraak & Smaak), these compositions evolve into immersive soundscapes shaped by impressionistic harmony, extended chords and the interplay between acoustic and electronic sounds. Following the release of headprint in April 2026, endive received praise from national and international publications. Written in Music (NL) called it a “spherical and carefully crafted cinematic work” and Obscure Sound (US) highlighted its “haunting mixture of lush vocal-led intrigue and rock-laden emotion.” contact: info@endivemusic.com
