Biography & Metadata
RADICAL HUMAN EXPERIENCES Known for their experimental programming, daring collaborations and engaging performances, the work of Manchester Collective has expanded at breakneck speed since their formation in 2016. The shape-shifting ensemble performs a combination of cutting-edge contemporary music, classical masterpieces and staged work nationally and internationally, in spaces ranging from concert halls to warehouses, nightclubs to festivals. New music is of vital importance to the Collective – in recent years, they have commissioned major works by artists including Edmund Finnis, Nabihah Iqbal, Hannah Peel, Lyra Pramuk, Ben Nobuto, Moor Mother, Vessel, Oliver Leith and Kelly Moran. Notable cross-genre collaborations include Sirocco and The Oracle with South African cellist Abel Selaocoe, The Unfurrowed Field with jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie, Rosewood and Sea Shanties with guitarist Sean Shibe, and a multimedia performance of Michael Gordon’s ‘Weather’ with an installation by influential sound recordist Chris Watson. Manchester Collective have released three of their own studio albums on Valgeir Sigurðsson's label Bedroom Community, and are featured artists on recordings by GoGo Penguin, Hania Rani, and Abel Selaocoe. “The coolest kids on the classical block” – The Sunday Times
