Biography & Metadata
The Astronomers make music that feels as expansive as it is deeply personal. Led by Michael Stensland and Ben Baker, the duo have carved out their own lane with nostalgic, brass-tinted Midwest pop - writing, producing, mixing, and shaping every project themselves. Blending emotional storytelling with explosive choruses, layered instrumentation, and modern production, their sound sits somewhere between Quinn XCII, AJR, and Jon Bellion while still feeling unmistakably their own Their rise began with breakout single Overthinking, which hit #1 on Midwest pop station 101.1 WIXX, followed by fan-favorite releases like Bad Type and Hotel Rooms — the latter climbing to #88 on U.S. Top 40 radio. The duo built momentum with touring relentlessly across the country. Onstage is where The Astronomers fully come alive — blending drums, keys, saxophone, spacey guitar textures, and fully programmed lighting show into a constantly evolving live experience. From supporting Quinn XCII on the Look! I’m Alive tour at The Sylvee to performing for a 3,000-person crowd at Mile of Music and selling 600 tickets at Green Bay’s Meyer Theatre, their live shows have become the centerpiece of their growing movement The Astronomers continue to expand their world without compromising the independence that defines them. With a reputation for standout performances, and a fanbase that continues to grow stronger, the duo are stepping into their next chapter with confidence
