Salisbury Cathedral Choir

The Choir of Salisbury Cathedral, UK, maintains a tradition of choral music stretching back over 800 years in the present Cathedral, and a further 200 years before that in the Cathedral at Old Sarum. Music has always played a vital role in the Daily Offices provided by sixteen boy choristers and six Lay Vicars. In 1991 Salisbury Cathedral took the historic step of bringing young girl choristers into the Choral Foundation, and today the singing duties are divided equally between the two sets of choristers, who attend Salisbury Cathedral School. The choir is run by David Halls, Director of Music, who is assisted by John Challenger (Assistant Director of Music) and an annually-appointed Organ Scholar. In addition to singing eight services per week, the choir gives regular concerts (performing alongside world-class orchestras and soloists), and undertakes recordings, broadcasts and tours. The choir commissions new music regularly, recent premieres including works by Roxanna Panufnik, Owain Park, John Rutter, and Errollyn Wallen.
