David Bergmüller

David Bergmüller is an Austrian lutenist, composer, conductor and professor. His work moves between early music, composition and electronics. In 2024, he made his debut as musical director and conductor at Theater an der Wien with Proxima D.He has performed at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Verbier Festival, Bozar Brussels, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Köln and Wien Modern. His collaborators include David Orlowsky, Janus Rasmussen, Maurice Steger, Avi Avital, Concentus Musicus and Akamus Berlin.His recordings include Rhétorique Du Silence (2023), Wirbel (2023), ALTER EGO (2022) and Know Thyself (2025). ALTER EGO, made with David Orlowsky, received an Opus Klassik in 2023. Bergmüller writes for his instruments, and Pia Palme, Arturo Fuentes, Gilad Hochman, Akos Banlaky and Manuel Durão have composed for him.Born in Hall in Tirol in 1989, he studied with Hopkinson Smith and Rolf Lislevand. He teaches at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
