Reverend Basstorius

“Reverend Basstorius” is the pseudonym of "Gert De Meester”, a Belgian musician from Mechelen, who mainly specializes in ambient and experimental music with the bass guitar as a central instrument as “Distant Fires Burning”. His musical career started in the 90s, when he was active as a bassist in various rock and funk bands, including “The Hindu Needle Trick” and “ The Seven Laws Of Woo ”. During this period he developed his signature style and experimented with different musical genres. In addition to his work as “Distant Fires Burning”, De Meester has also released music under the names “The Mental Attack”, “Reverend Basstorius' Intergalactic Funk Experience” and “Reverend Basstorius”. With the latter two he combines his funk and jazz influences with electronic elements. In 2004, as “Reverend Basstorius’ Intergalactic Funk Experience”, he wrote the soundtrack for the play “ARK!” by the theatre company “De Rijders van de Laatste Ark”. In 2022, as “Reverend Basstorius”, he made a remix of the track “Mongrel” by “The Hindu Needle Trick Needle Trick”. In 2025, he collaborates with Belgian artist “Nevel” on "We are the rhythm" on "Subsconcious Dubs" released on May 2, 2025. On June 13, 2025, “We are the Rhythm” was released as a single. As 2025 expands we see the track Empty Room (Dub Remix) released by Luc Van Acker, Nevel and Reverend Basstorius
