Randall Scotting is a sought-after countertenor, acclaimed by international critics and engaged by many of the world’s leading opera houses. Recent seasons have brought highly praised debuts, including Britten’s Death in Venice at the Royal Opera, Haas’s Thomas at the Bayerische Staatsoper, and the world premiere of Sciarrino’s Venere e Adone at Staatsoper Hamburg. A dramatically persuasive and intensely musical interpreter, he is known for vocal beauty, stylistic assurance, and charismatic stage presence. His engagements include the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, Carnegie Hall, Santa Fe Opera, the New York Philharmonic, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Göttingen Handel Festival, Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, Boston Baroque, and National Sawdust. Upcoming, he debuts at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice, again in Venere e Adone. Scotting has released several acclaimed recordings on the Signum Classics label. His debut solo album, The Crown: Heroic Arias for Senesino (2022), featured the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Laurence Cummings. Later releases include Lovesick, with lutenist Stephen Stubbs, and Infinite Refrain, a collection of seventeenth-century Venetian love duets with the Academy of Ancient Music. His recordings have been widely praised, with Scotting noted for his “ravishing vocalism” and “darkly mellifluous” tone. His next album, Dive Impresario, also with the Academy of Ancient Music and Laurence Cummings, explores virtuoso music for the castrato Nicolini.
