Biography & Metadata

Ràs Jonas is a versatile artist with a sharp and controversial sense of humor who raises the flag for reggae/dancehall culture in Brazil. Raised in the discriminated northern area of Natal-RN, he began his career in 2008 as a backing vocalist and has since consolidated several partnerships connecting with other artists and producers from Brazil, Latin America, Africa and Europe. Ràs Jonas stands out for his pioneering work in Brazil in bringing more modern references to dancehall and its Jamaica-Brazil cultural translation, inspired by Vybz Kartel. He is recognized on fan pages of the King of dancehall Vybz Kartel as a representative of the gaza family in Brazil. A singer, lyricist and percussionist, in his home country, Jonas has contributed and performed in several projects with Brazilian musical genres such as forró, axé, samba and samba-reggae. He is one of the official performers of Africatarina, a traditional afro block at the Florianópolis carnival, where the public affectionately refers to Jonas as Pharaoh.
