"A bittersweet gem of bubblegum punk melancholy" LOUD WOMEN "Beneath the cheery and sickly-sweet pop melodies lies a wry smile and a dry sense of humour” Listen With Monger "A wondrous indie-pop masterclass" Indie Rocks Radio "This song has such an infectious spring in its step it can surely turn an existential crisis into a feel-good-hit for the summer" God is in the TV Nell Davies started making music in lockdown, after reading Viv Albertine’s autobiography inspired her to buy a guitar and write her first song. Her music, influenced by post-punk pop and riot grrrl, has been described as ‘bubblegum punk’, and is known for its witty, scathing lyrics. Born and raised in Liverpool, Nell now lives in wild West Cornwall, where she records songs in an old pigsty (it's nicer than it sounds, but not much), and makes DIY videos in her living room (and sometimes a derelict barn). This year, after a successful Crowdfunder campaign, she released her debut EP, The End of the World or Whatever. Loud Women said of the title track, ‘The track sparkles with jangly indie-pop hooks, but beneath the sugar is a gut-punch of loss… It’s sad. It’s brave. It’s brilliant.’ This year also brought Nell’s first UK tour, playing solo with electric guitar and backing tracks as a one-woman band, at venues including the Windmill in Brixton and the Purple Turtle in Reading, and festivals including Bearded Theory, Rebellion and Manchester Popfest. She also supported the goddess that is Wendy James.
