Biography & Metadata
Houston Red was born on the Northside of Houston, where the days are hot, the nights are loud, and everybody’s got a story. His mama worked double shifts, his uncles welded and hauled scrap, his granddaddy ran an old repair shop where Red learned his first chords and swung his first wrench. Most weekends were spent out in the countryside, where half his cousins still live on dirt roads, and his family still keeps a patch of land near Livingston. That’s where he learned tge things city folks don’t always see: how to mend a fence, how to fix an engine, how to shoot straight and tell the truth even when it hurts. Red grew up on old country records, the outlaw stories; Willy Nelson and Johnny Cash, the back-porch blues of Smokey Smothers and Roger Wilson, and then as a teen bumpin’ dj screw , Ghetto Boys and UGK and Tupac through the speakers of his truck. His sound is what happens when worlds collide roughneck country soul over boom-bap drums, steel strings over 808s, red-dirt storytelling with a Northside Houston attitude. He’s a Northside kid with country blood, a big-heart with a long memory and a real bad temper, a man who’ll pray for you but still stand his ground. His songs carry the dust of East Texas, the grind of Houston traffic, and the weight of every lesson learned from the people who raised him. Houston Red makes music for folks who work hard, love deep, and ride through whatever life throws at them. A little outlaw country, a little rap, a lot of real.
