Biography & Metadata
Kula Kriya is a project by composer, music producer and sound healer Tom Bem. The name comes from Sanskrit: kula, meaning community, and kriya, meaning practice. It was born out of burnout, when sound, breath and stillness helped Tom find his way back to calm. Tom stopped making pop music in 2017 to pursue a life as a yoga and meditation teacher, and now creates richly textured, emotive soundscapes and music to relax, meditate and heal to. He writes as a musician first, building pieces from layered harmony, real instruments and melodies that return and change as the music unfolds. Singing bowls, gong, guitar and his own voice sit alongside warm pads, often tuned to healing frequencies such as 432hz and the solfeggio tones. His work is shaped by a simple belief: healing should be beautiful, intentional and genuinely accessible. In 2026 he began Through The Elements, four albums across a year, each released on a solstice or equinox, starting with Fathom (Water). Tom is also the author of Awake & Aware, and creates music for Karuku, Mamoritai, Nature's Tone 432hz, Sleepy Solfeggios & The Deep Calm under the Kula Kriya label, from his garden studio in rural Surrey, hoping listeners find some calm, peace or softness in everything he makes.
