Born in January 1968 in Chennai, Sanjay is one of those rare and complete performers whose concerts are the product of a lively and intelligent mind. Sanjay’s music epitomises a distinct blend of tradition and modernity - with the high authority and purity of tradition and the creativity of an exceptionally gifted artist making him appeal to the broadest spectrum of listeners alike. He began his concert career in 1986, giving him over three decades of performance experience. With his unique vocal texture, compounded with a fertile creative mind and patented style of delivery, his concerts never fail to surprise and enthrall his audiences. Not only does he actively unearth rare compositions, especially in the Tamil language, he also presents rare ragas with the same rigour and discipline with which he sings the classical giants like Todi, Kamboji, etc. In 2015, Sanjay was among the few chosen artistes under the age of fifty to have been awarded the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi title by the Music Academy Madras. Today, at the height of his powers, Sanjay is an iconic inspiration to the younger generation, and his legion of admirers is spread all over the globe.
