Biography & Metadata

Jasper Wijnands, recording as Shook, makes music that lives somewhere between memory and the future. In his own words, his work is inspired by "timeless forces such as love, change and art," drawing from 70s and early 80s synth-pop, disco and funk through to anime and futuristic soundtracks. Rooted in classical training and his Asian and Western roots, and formed by a youth spent digging through record shops, he has spent over a decade building a sound that moves freely between synthesizer funk, city pop and ambient, to dance floor-friendly electro and nu disco. He has collaborated with Legowelt, the Den Haag electronic pioneer, and with Shinichiro Yokota of the Japanese house underground. Hideki Matsutake a.k.a. Logic System of YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA has spoken about his work. His music has reached NASA and Netflix's Better Call Saul. His track "Always" became a personal anthem for astronaut Christina Koch, who played it to her husband from the International Space Station during her record-breaking mission. She has since flown around the Moon as part of NASA's Artemis II, traveling farther from Earth than any human before her. Still looking for the place where memory and the future meet.
