Biography & Metadata
The Electorate released their debut LP ‘You Don’t Have Time To Stay Lost’ in late 2020 to critical acclaim in their home town of Sydney, and far further abroad. Rolling Stone gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars and called it “one of the finest albums of 2020, and one of the strongest debuts to date”. Backseat Mafia praised the album’s “classic Australian indie poetic rock, as epitomised by The Go-Betweens and The Apartments while reflecting an indelible link to the layered harmonies and pop perfection of The Beatles, The Kinks and XTC”. The album was featured on 2SER, spun on KEXP, Double J & raved about in influential US taste makers The Big Takeover & Austin City Limits. Starting their life as The Templebears in the 1990s, Eliot Fish, Nick Kennedy and Josh Morris would go on to play pivotal roles in The Apartments, Big Heavy Stuff, Atticus, Knievel and Imperial Broads. After a 20 year break, the band regrouped in 2015 and slowly set about recording their debut LP. To mark the new beginnings of a debut LP so long in the making, The Electorate was born. On May 30, 2025, The Electorate will release their new LP By Design, through Love As Fiction Records. Produced by Wayne Connolly (Teskey Brothers/Hoodoo Gurus/Babe Rainbow) and mastered by Jason Mitchell (PJ Harvey/XTC) By Design will feature Face of a Giant, Peace Love and Kindness and new single The Great Divide.
