Clive Hawkes

Born in the East End of London….it was a very humble beginning. At the age of seven I joined the church choir and this was my first introduction to music - that, and “discovering” my grandparents old out of tune piano. At about 18 I formed a pop group with some friends and which toured the pubs and working mens clubs around the East End. By this time I had limited keyboard skills but the group only did cover versions which was not what I wanted to do. I left school at 16 and with some money I started buying Burt Bacharach albums. Burt Bacharach was without a doubt my hero and, although of course he does not know it, effectively taught me the principals of writing commercial songs. For some 40 years after leaving the group I focused on writing songs. I starting using the Cubase DAW and then, Reason from its very inception. This opened up a whole new way of expressing my music. By uploading my songs, and getting love, appreciation and encouragement, I improved my game and even started to sing my own songs. Amazing frieindships were made through collaborating and to this day I am blessed in being able to work with some great musicians from around the world. And so the story continues….it is actually just the beginning. As regard to music, I have to feel some strong emotion when writing a song. My hope and dream is that others can enjoy and have those songs resonate with them too. It is the quest for magic that makes the process so rewarding….I hope you like them.
