Biography & Metadata

There is always a story behind the silence. This Kind Of Things writes songs for the moments when that silence becomes impossible to ignore. Nothing here is designed to comfort you quickly. Based in Porto, Portugal, TKOT is a DIY indie-rock project built around atmospheric guitars, strong melodies and emotionally charged songwriting, far more interested in the specific than the universal. Drawing from alternative rock, post-punk, shoegaze and melodic pop-rock, the songs explore love, distance, memory, loss and hope — the things most of us feel but don't always know how to say. Listeners tend to reach for the same reference points: the sweep of U2, the melancholy clarity of early Coldplay, the dark romance of Placebo, the restraint of Daughter, the existential nerve of Gang Of Youths, the cold urgency of The Sound. But none of that was the plan going in — it's just what came out. It's independent because it has to be. Ambitious because there's no reason not to be. Personal, because that's the only way any of it got made — and hopefully it travels further than where it started.
