Biography & Metadata

Allen Ingalls and the Western Collective were formed by an accidental meeting when the Allen Ingalls Band and the choir from St. Thomas AME church were double-booked for a recording session. Rather than re-book or cancel, Allen and Sister Yvonne decided to work it out. The result was a unique blend of gospel-flavored country music that has proven successful. Allen Ingalls and the Western Collective bring together country, gospel, bluegrass, a cappella and classical influences with songs rooted in faith, family, humor and everyday life. More than a band, the Western Collective is a musical community built around collaboration. Songwriters and ideas can come from anywhere within that community, and no song is considered finished simply because someone wrote it. The song is the starting point; arrangement, harmony, instrumentation and performance develop through the contributions of the group. That philosophy shapes a sound that can move naturally from traditional country and bluegrass to Southern gospel, intricate vocal harmony and unexpected musical territory. At the center is a simple principle: individual musicianship matters, but the music matters more. Competition can make good musicians better, but never at the expense of trust, respect or the spirit of the group. Allen Ingalls and the Western Collective: everybody contributes, and the best idea wins.
