Shawn VanBrocklin is the artist behind Releaf, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and longtime musician from Upstate New York. Releaf began in 2023 in Shawn’s small home studio, shaped by two decades of writing, touring, and recording across projects like Greene Reveal and Nice People. After releasing his 2019 indie-pop solo record, Many Voices, he shifted toward a sound that blends the atmospheric guitars of his ambient rock roots with the calm, emotive world of chillhop. Shawn’s goal has always been simple: create music that gives the listener a sense of peace, stillness, and escape. Releaf grew from that mission, playing on the idea of finding relief in sound and reconnecting with the natural spaces that inspired him. Built around guitar-driven melodies, soft rhythms, and ambient textures, Releaf lands in a distinctive lane within the lofi & chillhop scene. His tracks carry the emotional clarity of a songwriter and the patience of ambient music, aiming to push the genre beyond background listening. Since launching the project, Releaf has passed 650,000 streams on Spotify. Highlights include the EP In A Season's Time vol.1 on PVMM, standout tracks like “Unfurling” and “Morning Sounds,” and collaborations with Lo-Fi Tigers and Shane Houghtaling.
