Biography & Metadata
Raleigh, NC-based singer-songwriter Brooke Murgitroyd began singing as soon as she learned to talk, and co-wrote her first song at 9 years of age. Brooke was born in Glasgow Scotland, and raised in North Carolina. She has been studying voice and songwriting with teaching artist Carrie Marshall since elementary school. She plays guitar and piano, and self-accompanies herself while singing. Her vocals have been described as “effortless”. Brooke initially used songwriting as a way to share stories and process her experiences with childhood hospitalizations and diagnosis with chronic illness. Brooke’s ability to authentically share her own challenges grew into a desire to tell stories wider than her own through song. Her musical influences have evolved through the years, beginning with a childhood love of musical theater and pop, and eventually including influences from jazz repertoire, indie, country, and singer/songwriter, finding inspiration from both local and famous songwriters. Some of her songwriting/musical inspirations are Adele, Lizzy McAlpine, Sara Bareilles, and Phoebe Bridgers, among others. Brooke released three original singles in 2023 recorded in Nashville, TN (“Conversation Starter”, “Butterflies” and “Habit”), and has plans to return to the studio with new music in 2024. She has studied at the Berklee Summer Program for songwriting, and was mentored by alumni and performing artist Casey McQuillen. Find more information at her website brookemurgitroyd.com.
