Johan Famaey

Johan Famaey is a Belgian pianist, award‑winning composer, and yangqin player. Since 2023, he has been the music director of the World Piano Day Festival at AMUZ Antwerp, where he curates and performs symphonic programmes that return annually. His journey spans Europe, USA and China, from a 2008 debut with Qingdao Symphony Orchestra at Beijing’s National Grand Theatre to concerts in Antwerp with conductor Dirk Brossé , plus a 2025 Time Passenger Show concert at Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana and appearances with orchestras in China (Beijing) and the USA (Greeley/Denver). Famaey composes musicals, piano solos, chamber and symphonic works, weaving Chinese influences and instruments like erhu, pipa, yangqin, guzheng, xiao. His style led to commissions from Silk String Quartet (UK), Tangram (UK), Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (Spain), Embassy of China in Belgium, and work with choirs in Belgium and Barcelona. Collaborators include Marina Martín Maldonado (ES), Helen Grant (UK), Mariana Roque (BR), Dr. Cheng Yu (UK–CH), Charlotte Campion (BE), Victoria Moré (MX), Eline Verstraeten (BE), Budapest Scoring Orchestra, Juan Ceballos (ES), Xavier Puig (ES), Prima La Musica Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Simfònica Del Vallès (SP) , Wesley Broadnax (US) and Dirk Brossé (BE).
