Duncan Sheik

On June 24th, Grammy, and two-time Tony award winning songwriter and composer Duncan Sheik will release his new album Claptrap, the first release for Sheik since 2015’s Legerdemain on New York-based record label AntiFragile Music. Claptrap is the latest installment from Sheik who has crafted a multi-faceted career as a successful singer-songwriter, producer, film composer and theatre composer, namely the Broadway & West End musical Spring Awakening for which Sheik collaborated with lyricist Steven Sater and composed an original score. Described by Variety as “the most startling and exciting rock tuner to hit the boards since ‘Rent’,” Spring Awakening won the Olivier Award for “Best New Musical” and eight Tony awards, with Sheik earning two Tony awards for “Best Orchestration” and “Best Original Score” as well as a Grammy award for “Best Musical Show Album.” HBO will release a documentary on May 3, 2022 which chronicles the 15th Anniversary concert of Spring Awakening which raised funds and awareness for The Actor’s Fund. Other notable theatrical accomplishments include American Psycho (Broadway 2016), The Secret Life of Bees, Alice By Heart and Whisper House. Duncan Sheik launched his musical career in 1996 with his self-titled debut album Duncan Sheik, which earned him a Grammy nomination for “Best Male Vocal”, spurned the pop hit “Barely Breathing” and went on to sell 750,000 copies, Certified Gold by the RIAA.
