Biography & Metadata

Nikos Portokaloglou is one of the most important figures in Greek music over the past 45 years—a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and producer. In 1980, he formed the band FATME, releasing their debut album in 1982. After six influential and successful albums and numerous concerts across Greece and Cyprus, the band disbanded in 1989, and Nikos embarked on a solo career. Since then, he has collaborated with many leading artists who have performed his songs, including Haris Alexiou, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Alkistis Protopsalti, Dimitris Mitropanos, Eleni Vitali, Yiannis Kotsiras, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Natassa Bofiliou, and Giannis Haroulis. He has released 14 solo albums and performed thousands of shows, many of them sold out. In 2020, he launched and hosted the TV show Music Box on Greek National Television (ERT), inviting artists from various genres to collaborate in new and creative ways. Over 300 Greek and international musicians took part, including Maria Farantouri, George Dalaras, Vasilis Papakonstadinou, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Savina Yannatou, Eric Burdon, Yasmin Levy, Ara Dinkjian, Kadebostany, and Shantel. The show ran for four years with 120 episodes, becoming the most successful music program on Greek TV. In 2022, he marked 40 years in music with two sold-out concerts at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. From 2023 to 2025, he reimagined his work with orchestras, quartets, and choirs. While, his new album Anamessa is expected in October 2025.
