Hiss Golden Messenger

Originating from Durham, North Carolina, Hiss Golden Messenger is the musical vehicle for singer and songwriter MC Taylor. Having amassed a body of work that “calls up a wide spectrum of American vernacular music” (The New Yorker), Hiss Golden Messenger's early recordings were released through Taylor's own label, Heaven & Earth Magic Recording Company, before being signed to Merge Records in April 2014.  The band released six studio albums for the label, including the GRAMMY-nominated Terms of Surrender.  Upon the release of their 2023 album, Jump for Joy, publication No Depression wrote: “For the last two decades or so, [HissGolden Messenger] has followed a sonic calling to craft earnest, meaningful songs rooted inauthentic experiences. Whether questioning the meaning of life, pondering the finality of dying, or chronicling the heart’s desire to be known, Taylor has always done so with beauty, integrity, and empathy.”  Now signed with Chrysalis Records, Hiss Golden Messenger return with their new album, I’m People. It’s an intensely human record - immediate, vulnerable, and full of spirit, something you could touch, sing along to, dance with, know about, recognize, relate. Taylor, grappling with the heartbreak and exhilaration, the absolute black comedy of being alive in America circa 2026, seems to ask: What other choice do we have than to be hopeful?
