Outerspace is a highly respected underground hip hop duo hailing from North Philadelphia, known for their hard-hitting lyrical style and authentic East Coast sound. Originally formed as a trio by three Puerto Rican friends—Planetary, Crypt the Warchild, and Jedeye—the group quickly became a staple of Philadelphia’s underground music scene, with Planetary and Crypt the Warchild eventually emerging as the core members. Outerspace is celebrated for their complex rhyme structures, scientific lyricism, and space-themed beats. The group’s name itself reflects their intent to push boundaries. Outerspace’s rise is closely tied to influential collaborations with Jedi Mind Tricks and membership in the powerhouse collective Army of the Pharaohs, alongside prominent artists like Vinnie Paz, Apathy, and Celph Titled. Their debut single “We Lyve” in 1998 established their reputation for intricate lyricism and gritty production, leading to a series of collaborations and appearances across landmark underground releases The duo has released several critically acclaimed albums, including “Blood and Ashes” (2004), “Blood Brothers” (2006), “God’s Fury” (2008), and “My Brother’s Keeper” (2011), all marked by high-profile guest features and powerful storytelling. In recent years, Outerspace has continued to innovate within the genre, dropping the “Lost Angels” EP in 2023 after nearly a decade-long hiatus, proving their staying power and relevance in hip hop’s ever-changing landscape.
