Biography & Metadata
Renegade Soundwave were pioneers of UK electronic music, emerging from London’s underground at the close of the 1980s with a sound that fused dub sound-system culture, hip-hop, industrial texture and alternative dance into a radical new hybrid. Released via Mute Records, their bass-heavy productions collapsed genre boundaries, anticipating the hybrid electronic culture that now defines modern club music. Tracks such as “The Phantom,” “Probably A Robbery,” “Ozone Breakdown” and “Women Respond To Bass” became enduring DJ favourites, their influence acknowledged by artists including The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield and The Prodigy. Frequently cited as ahead of their time, Renegade Soundwave helped lay foundations for the electronic landscape that followed — and their catalogue continues to resonate with new generations worldwide. Founded by Danny Briottet, Gary Asquith and Karl Bonnie, Renegade Soundwave remain a defining presence in the evolution of UK electronic music.
