Clariyah Bo$$ — turning pain into power. Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Aus/Polynesian artist Clariyah Bo$$ began writing poetry at 12 before turning to rap music by 15. Growing up in housing commission flats with her single mother and three siblings, Clariyah Bo$$ used music as both therapy and escape through a difficult upbringing marked by hardship, violence, and adversity. Inspired heavily by American hip hop, she taught herself to rap through YouTube and music television in the early 2010s before discovering the Australian rap scene, influences that still shape her sound today. She first started uploading music from her bedroom, recording vocals on a Blackberry phone while remixing popular tracks and posting them online. In 2014, her breakout track “Suicide,” based on real-life experiences, went viral across Facebook and YouTube and now sits at over 2.8 million views. Her remix of Jhené Aiko’s “The Worst” surpassed 8.3 million YouTube views, helping her build an audience of more than 200,000 subscribers. Clariyah Bo$$ has been featured on WorldStarHipHop, performed at Summer Jam Australia 2024, received support from Triple J and CADA, and was named a finalist for Acclaim Magazine’s “People’s Champ” in 2020. Through raw storytelling and emotional honesty, Clariyah Bo$$ creates music that not only reflects her own journey, but allows listeners to see themselves in it too.
