Lagartijeando

15 years ago, in a dream of the desert universe of Wirikuta, Mexico, a musical project that evokes the spirit of a Latin American surrealism, was born under the name Lagartijeando to musician and artist Mati Zundel. Carefully curating a mix between the ancestral, the folkloric and the contemporary, Mati has released 5 albums which were recorded on various trips through Latin America. Renowned for beautiful textures and layers in his production work, Lagartijeando has garnered support from the likes of The Fader, Remezcla, KCRW, NPR, BBC and many others. Lagartijeando has been releasing music since 2009 (both under that name and Mati Zundel). He's been associated with labels like ZZK (Nicola Cruz), Waxploitation (Gnarls Barkley, Danger Mouse) with his new album (amongst 3 previous albums) on Wonderwheel Recordings (El Búho, Chancha Via Circuito, Nickodemus). Mati’s new album 7 Caminos represents the possibility of choosing all the paths that can be walked. Created between Cholula, Mexico and Tarapoto, Peru, it has the energy of the South American jungle and the volcanoes of the Mexican Altiplano. The musical exploration on the new album mixes Cumbia, Reggaeton, Downtempo, Folktronica, pre-Hispanic music, and Afrobeats – all with an underlying energy of celebration.
