Biography & Metadata
Kaminski is what happens when art-pop gets lost in a dream and wakes up in a Dutch cathedral. Working somewhere between art rock and chamber pop, this Dutchman navigates the uneasy relationship between beauty and distortion. His songs often begin delicately, almost reverently, before developing an inconvenient mind of their own. Melody is rarely abandoned, though it occasionally finds itself in questionable company. Before Kaminski, there was Monstertux, the Dutch indie band that won the Dommelsch Independent Music Award for Best Independent Band in the Netherlands in 2007 and toured Europe with Marillion in 2007 and 2012. A useful education in the peculiar business of making music, though apparently not enough to discourage him from continuing. There are traces of Bowie’s restless reinvention, Radiohead’s unease and Sufjan Stevens’ fragile intimacy, but Kaminski seems less interested in inhabiting a particular genre than in discovering where its boundaries become unreliable. His second solo album, Plot Armor (2026), considers the uncomfortable possibility that life owes us neither coherence nor a satisfying conclusion. Across ten songs, intimate chamber pop gives way to brooding art rock, with arrangements that occasionally approach the austerity of contemporary classical music. The result is less a meditation on despair than an exercise in making room for uncertainty. Art-pop for people who like their beauty a little bruised. Store in a cool, dry place.
