Biography & Metadata
Kamel Bushnaq, also known as Polykrome, is a Canadian Screen Award-nominated artist, film composer, and music producer. Born in Jordan to a Bosnian-Palestinian father and a Syrian mother, he began composing and producing music at the age of 17, experimenting with a wide range of genres and developing an eclectic musical voice. Bushnaq’s approach to music is a reflection of his diverse background. He grew up in an artistic household where visual art, literature, and music were a daily presence. Bach’s piano works were performed daily in his childhood home by his sister, while Beethoven’s symphonies amplified loudly through his father’s stereo system, often simultaneously. Surrounded by such a rich artistic environment, it was only a matter of time before he developed a keen ear for music and began exploring his own world of sound. He found himself drawing influences from classical, electronic, and jazz, as well as artists such as Franz Liszt, James Newton Howard, Vangelis, and Phil Collins. In addition to his work as an artist and producer, Bushnaq is a film and media composer who has created music for CBC’s The Nature of Things and the internationally acclaimed film American Doctor, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He also produced the song I Won’t Break for the Canadian film Queen Tut, earning him a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Song. Read full bio: https://www.polykromemusic.com/Home
