Biography & Metadata

Hindarfjäll is a Swedish musical constellation founded by Nils Edström in 2015, emerging from the coastal landscapes of Gothenburg. Rooted in an interest in pre-Christian Scandinavia and the old Nordic worldview known as Siðr, the project explores Nordic heritage, mythology, poetry, nature and living tradition. Rather than attempting to recreate the past, Hindarfjäll approaches it as something to reflect on and carry into the present. Through music and storytelling, the project engages with themes such as memory, identity, kinship, honour, rites, customs and the relationship between human beings, nature and the divine. In 2020, Hindarfjäll signed with Grimfrost Records and released the debut album Från Tidernas Begynnelse. This was followed by Lärads Grenar in 2022 and Seden in 2024, each release continuing the project’s exploration of Nordic cultural memory and tradition. Hindarfjäll has collaborated with several notable artists, including Peter Franzen from the TV series Vikings, Johan Hegg of Amon Amarth and Erik Grawsiö of Månegarm. At its core Hindarfjäll stands at the meeting point between past and present, using music and storytelling to give voice to old traditions and notions that still hold meaning today.
