Biography & Metadata
Slow Burn Drifters splice frames of Alternative-Indie, Gothic Americana, and Dream Pop into emotionally charged songs that might just be the soundtrack to our lives. With a thin layer of fabric stretched over his eyes and wearing a wide-brimmed black fedora, singer Ray Vale resembles something between Zorro and a Film-Noir version of Leonard Cohen. His accomplice, Violet Booth, who could've stepped out of a Twin Peaks episode, gazes at him from behind the piano as she moves her slender fingers across its ivory keys. Their enigmatic appearance and flirtation with cinematic aesthetics complete the picture, but they also belie the strikingly personal nature of their songs. The thirteen original tracks Vale self-produced for Slow Burn Drifters' upcoming debut album, Golden, meditate on loss, hope, and mortality as they veer from existential heartache to the sublime. Golden also features legendary drummer Jack Irons (Pearl Jam, RHCP, and Neil Young) on all thirteen tracks and contributions from multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes (PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age). Although one can hear familiar influences in Slow Burn Drifters' style, such as Nick Cave, David Bowie, and Scott Walker, they've shaped those influences into a signature sound that's unmistakably their own as they willingly lose themselves in a realm that blurs the line between music, film, and everyday life, where the journey is the destination, and it's always a slow burn.
