Tamborder

Tamborder is the alias through which Federico Romanzi explores a personal musical dimension built on rhythm, cultural curiosity, and unpredictability. The name comes from a hybrid instrument invented by Italian percussionist Tony Esposito: half percussion, half electronic — a perfect metaphor for the project’s spirit, suspended between tribal roots, electronic groove, and experimentation. Tamborder was born from the desire to create music without being tied to a specific genre. His sound blends influences from the Global South — especially Africa and Latin America — with contemporary club culture. This philosophy shapes his DJ sets as well: long, unpredictable journeys where the goal is not simply to make people dance, but to surprise them. Tracks are organized not by genre but by suggestion, connecting music from different worlds through shared atmospheres. A key chapter in his journey is his connection with Africa. After living for six months in Kenya, Tamborder explored local scenes around Malindi and Nairobi. His discography reflects this openness. The single The School, produced with Rodyn and released on Metropolitan Records, surpassed three million streams on Spotify. With Kenyan singer Sofia Nzau he released several tracks, including the Oceans Planet EP and Mukenu, marking the beginning of his collaboration with EGO Italy. Tamborder also founded his independent label Tamborder Dischi, created to release music without artistic compromise.
