Biography & Metadata
As the great-grandson of Canadian big band leader, Wally Perkins, and son of a Toronto-based luthier, music has always been a ubiquitous presence in Andrew Shier’s life. While Andrew grew up classically trained in piano, he quickly showed a talent to pick up any instrument. At the age of 13, he started recording his own original songs and in university, Andrew recorded and played every instrument on his first full length album. However, it wasn’t until his move to western Canada in 2013, where he formed the indie rock band Ten Minute Detour, that he really found his footing as a musician. TMD has two LPs under their belt and are actively playing stages across Canada while writing new material. In fall 2018, Andrew moved back to his Ontario roots where he first found his passion for music. Hoping to further demonstrate his abilities as a songwriter, producer and performer, Andrew released a new song every month in 2019. In 2020, Andrew joined forces with longtime friend and bandmate It's Hot for Everyone to form the alt rock duo Walboom, releasing their debut album on Pet Shop Records (UK). Andrew's band Ten Minute Detour released their third LP, 'Golden Tapestry', in 2023 and followed that up with three more singles. Andrew took some time to hone in on his songwriting and production skills , and eventually recorded “Bluebell” in his home studio, to be released in November 2026.
