Biography & Metadata
Joe Goodkin is a Chicago-based singer/songwriter and guitarist. He has released 16 albums of original music under the name Paper Arrows and his own name, including the Record of Life/Loss/Love trilogy, which established his reputation as an important songwriter known for his honesty and emotionally affecting lyrics. He composed two modern folk opera retellings of Homer’s epic poems the Odyssey and the Iliad (entitled The Blues of Achilles) which he has performed a combined 500 times in all 50 US states and Europe as a guest of such institutions as Harvard, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, and many more. What inspired him (other than the Muse, duh) to write these Homeric retellings you might ask? Well, he studied Classics at UW-Madison for one thing.
