Music has always fascinated me. The first birthday present I remember was a cassette tape of modern instrumental music curated by my father, along with a stereo player. I learned and played the piano briefly as a teenager, but had to largely abandon it when I went into medical school and moved to the US. I retook piano playing after my graduation, but I didn’t really have a chance to focus on composition. Although I always wanted to compose music, only recently was I able to spend the time and effort required to learn harmony. To me, this was an eye opener. It was like learning a new language that allows universal expressions, understandable to all humans, heart to heart. I now see music as a diary, which I use to express emotions and to balance the stress of my work. I hope to continue to explore composition for years to come.
