Chae

Spencer Brown aka "chae" (pronounced ch-aye) was originally an anonymous music producer based in New England, USA. Prior to revealing his name, they previously made electronic music for over 10 years, the pivot to lofi and dark ambient resulted in a unique blend between the genres. The low fidelity and organic tones from lofi combined with the ethereal and atmospheric ambience from electronic music is what forms this distinct sound. Starting this project in late September of 2021 the immediate goals are to make music that is passionate, soul filled and a product of the environment and influences that surrounds them. At the heart of Chae’s work is a commitment to crafting an invitation to escapism. Each track is meticulously designed to draw listeners into a different world, where familiar echoes of the past blend seamlessly with the surreal. Chae’s use of dreamcore aesthetics creates lush, ethereal soundscapes that envelop the listener in a dreamlike ambiance, while webcore influences introduce fragmented, digitally-infused sounds that evoke a nostalgic nod to early internet culture. Chae’s exploration of liminal spaces—those in-between moments of transition and ambiguity—further enhances this sense of immersion. Their music delves into these transitional areas, creating a feeling of being suspended between reality and fantasy.
